History & Honours

HISTORY

Volleyball has been played in the Newbridge area since 1967 when the Military College Volleyball Club was founded.  Over the years there have been many clubs such as Naoimh Brid VC, Phoenix VC, Oakleaf VC and Irish Ropes VC.  All clubs won national honours from Div 4 winners to Div I Champions & Senior Championship winners in ladies and men’s competitions.  The Curragh VC founded in 1975 was the forerunner of the current Newbridge Club.

The Curragh Volleyball Club changed its name to Newbridge Volleyball Club in 1994.  Since then both ladies and men’s teams have come up through the leagues and our senior ladies team is now established in Ireland’s Premier League.  We also have two ladies teams in Div 1 of the National League. We are hoping to build up our junior squads, as we believe that is where the future lies.  We hope over the next few years to develop a schools programme at primary and secondary level.
